Hingham, MA project with van der Kieft Designs

van der Kieft Designs project in Hingham, Massachusetts

Let’s begin these Notes by talking about collaboration! I encourage clients to invite their design partners to collaborate on photoshoots. Without question, photoshoots are an investment of time, money, and sweat equity, and they are typically how you wrap up a project you may have spent years working on. So, I understand how important it is to document the work as a product of the hard work invested by everyone involved.

A Moody Lower Level Design

This Hingham, MA project was an awesome collaboration between van der Kieft Designs and Topnotch Design Studio.  I believe this project wins for being one of the most creatively challenging (we’ll say!) to shoot, given this amazing lower level was color-drenched in the color black and had exactly zero natural light. The challenge was balancing the moody bar vibes while still revealing all the gorgeous cabinet detail in the bar area—something the clients and I went back and forth on to get just right.

A Breath of Fresh Light Upstairs

We moved upstairs, and everything became a breath of fresh air (and light!) in the main living areas. Christine, of van der Kieft Designs, created a super cool feature on the second floor: a huge mirrored wall that opens from a daughter's bedroom closet into a beautiful open-air landing overlooking the living room, with floor-to-ceiling bookcases flanking either side. I knew we had to create an image of it "in process" so her clients could see her magical ideas IRL.

A clear plan and open communication between teams made this collaborative shoot run smoothly. So next time you’re thinking all things photoshoots, reach out to your cabinet designer, the contractor, the architect, and your workroom, and see if they would like to collaborate.

My goal on every project is your goal—to showcase your (and my) best work. I see myself as part of your team, fully invested in delivering a final product that exceeds expectations.

Stay tuned for my Q&A with the designer, Christine van der Kieft.

xx, Jess
