Celebrating 13 years of JDP

Well, I’m officially a teenager!

As I take a moment to really reflect on the last 13 years of my business, I’m filled with so many emotions: joy, pride, appreciation, and gratitude. Grateful that owning my own business affords me flexibility in my schedule, which helped me raise my three kids while growing the business.

If my memory serves me right, my big break into the business happened in the spring of 2015 after a lunch date with Jenna Talbott. I asked her out to lunch after meeting her at a Design New England event, and we ended up gabbing for hours (we both have daughters about the same age, so duh, that was a good icebreaker!). Shortly thereafter, Jenna and the magazine asked me to work on a primary bath in South Boston, and I thought I would pass out with excitement. It was a huge success, although I do remember making a super embarrassing mistake on that shoot while trying to be a bit too big for my britches (but that’s a story for another day!)

I have to say that, truly, the best part of my job is that I consider myself part of my clients' team. I'm there to ensure every project is captured under the best conditions possible and ultimately to help them land their next big client. It’s a collaborative process, and my goal is for the photos we create to be an asset to the marketing side of the business. I joke that I’ve “grown up” in the business with many of my clients, some of whom I’ve been working with for nearly a decade.  These clients are now booking large, full-home projects, and they have thousands of people following their creative journeys. I am very proud to say that the work I’ve created with my clients has graced the pages of nearly every local publication here in New England, as well as national magazines such as House Beautiful, Better Homes & Gardens, HGTV Magazine, Architectural Digest, and more.

Another memorable moment was working on the Better Homes & Gardens feature. It was a super fun one because they had their eyes on Dina Holland, so we set out to have her home featured in the magazine.  We totally dreamed up a whole party theme for her dining room, shot many other rooms in her home, and shortly thereafter, BHG ran the story and named her one of BHG’s 2019 Stylemakers!

I’ve also been fortunate enough to work on major national ad campaigns for Momeni Rugs, Kasstex, Gorjana, and Jenni Kayne. And I was tickled to be included in two of Erin Gates’ three beautiful books.  I remember going to her very first book signing at Hudson Interior Designs, thinking to myself how great it would be to work with her one day. The universe answered!

And finally, I’m also very proud to say that last fall I was awarded Photographer of the Year by IFDA NE.  There is not nearly enough time or space to thank all the people who helped get me here.

Thanks to everyone who has supported me over the last 13 years. It has not gone unnoticed. Cheers to the next chapter and all that’s ahead!

xx, Jess
